One Room Challenge (Fall 2021) Week 1 – Primary Room Ensuite

Ensuite Refresh Moodboard

Well, I did it. After years of watching from the sidelines, I can’t believe I’m finally saying this – I signed up to participate in the Fall 2021 One Room Challenge! (A biannual design event held every spring and fall (for the past 20 years), it’s essentially a challenge to ourselves to be able to complete a chosen room within 8 weeks!)

And the room I’ll be working on is….our ensuite! (as if the title of this post didn’t give it away haha)

This is the space I originally wanted to work on for the Spring ORC earlier this year, but for those of you who were around back then know that it coincided with the week I would be returning to work from mat leave. So I decided to respect my own boundaries and take a step back. Instead I got to enjoy all the beautiful transformations around me (a decision I absolutely have no regrets about). That being said I’m thrilled to be able to join this season. 🥳🥳🥳

  • Will I be able to finish at the 8 week mark? 🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️
  • Will the Mister wonder why does a perfectly functional room need any chages? You know it. 🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️😒😒
  • Will I make mistakes? Absolutely.😬😬
  • Will I be learning? No doubt, and hopefully you do too!🤠🤠
  • Will I enjoy watching the room transform into my vision? Words can’t quantify my joy!🥳🥳

Now here’s what to expect for the space, functionally, there is nothing wrong with the washroom as our house is a new build, so this challenge will be focused on budget friendly aesthetic changes! AKA this won’t be a large grandiose affair involving a gut job, retiling, plumbing etc (that’s the sound of my husband sighing in major relief)

“The Super-High-Level-Plan”
1. Paint (multiple elements)
2. Add some trim work for an accent wall
3. Change vanity lighting
4. Make some floating shelves
5. Hack more functional storage space into the cabinet
6. Decorate and maybe some surprises!

For the next 8 weeks – you all get a front row seat to this. So hang on tight, and be sure to check out my IG ORCF21 highlight bubble for a ‘before’ tour, and details of what’s to come! Can’t wait to have you alongside for this journey, you all are the best!
