And it went like…

If you asked me two years ago, if I ever thought I would be blogging, I would have replied with a resounding heck no.  If you asked me one year ago, I would have replied with the exact same reply, and it would have remained the same even three months ago.

And yet the only constant in life is change, and here I am with a changed outlook, writing my very first blog post, in the midst of a global pandemic while on maternity leave (wrapping up month 13, with just a couple of more to go!).

I’ve always been doing smaller DIYs and crafts on some level but being on maternity leave in the midst of this health crisis, had me daydreaming (between diaper changes, baby feeds, bath time and naps) on what changes I wanted to bring to our humble house and truly make it our home for our growing family.  Enough waiting around for the perfect forever home sometime in the distant future, it was time to enjoy the present in our current house, and make it our perfect home.

I was fortunate that my husband has always been quite handy, so we had a plethora of tools already accessible to me.  In the past, it would always be me starting conversations with, “Do you know what would be cool, if we added…”, and subsequently me drawing up some sketches with him building it out.

However, it was time for a change – I decided I wanted to take matters into my own hands.  After years of watching him build, and learning tips from him as an observer it was time.

  • I wanted to start building myself.
  • I wanted to feel the satisfaction of looking at something at the house knowing that I built that.
  • I wanted to show my son when he’s older, “Look, your mama built that and you know what, girls CAN build.”
  • I wanted other girls who look like me, to feel like they can also do it.

I was hopeful and cautiously confident after obsessing over a few larger DIY IG accounts (looking at Angela @angelarosehome and Lindsay @frills_and_drills) that I could do it too.

…And that’s how I ended up here, writing my very first blog post for my DIY journey.

So thank you for being here with me
